“Sound Space” Art Trail, Lubbock, TX, Fall 2016

In “Sound Space”, I want to challenge the superiority of hearing to sight, to explore the sense of hearing and how people trust their ears while the image questions the sound. I try to examine how sound, as an important element that defines a space, changes the spatial identity of a place. In this work, I question the originality of sound and image. Part of the sound is live and sometimes I play some recorded sounds, by which the spatial definition of the place inside the image changes. While the image shows a fluid objective observation of an empty street, the sounds, especially the recorded sounds added to the live sound, provide subjectivity for the audience. The image is a recorded video of the same place that the performance takes place however the sound, even the live sound, describes different location
